As a physiotherapist and experienced Retul-trained bike fitter, Spencer believes deeply in helping people
get and stay active in a way that is meaningful to them. He is passionate about melding his medical
training with the art and science of bicycle fitting to help clients enjoy cycling the way it’s meant to be
enjoyed. He feels strongly that bike fitting knowledge needs to be combined with medical knowledge of
the body to bring a truly holistic approach to the fit process.
As a lifelong competitive athlete in running and cycling, Spencer struggled early on with nagging injuries
that affected his participation and enjoyment of sport. Discovering the science and theory behind
movement and biomechanics naturally led him to a Bachelors of Kinesiology in Calgary, and then a
Masters in Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta. He feels modern physiotherapy should pay
more than lip service to its dedication to injury prevention, and to this end, he uses bike fitting as a
powerful tool to prevent future injuries.
Spencer is frequently active in the cycling community and experienced in many cycling disciplines.
Currently a Cat 3 road and cyclocross racer, he is also a single-speed commuter and weekend warrior on
the mountain bike. He has cycle-toured across Canada, and completed other multi-week tours in
Australia, New Zealand, and Arizona. Once a 15-minute 5k runner as a varsity athlete, he is currently
making the inevitable transition to competing more in triathlon despite the necessary swim.
